IOWA CITY — The trial of an Iowa football player accused of punching a cab driver has been delayed until next year.

Adrian Clayborn, of Iowa City, is charged with assault causing bodily injury. His trial, which had been set for June 22, has been continued until Jan. 19 in Johnson County District Court.

Police say Clayborn hit the cabbie after the man honked at him about 2 a.m. Jan. 18. Police say Clayborn left his vehicle, reached inside the taxi and punched the driver, who suffered minor injuries.

Clayborn, a defensive end, started 11 games for the Hawkeyes last season as a sophomore.

Coach Kirk Ferentz has said he presumes Clayborn is not guilty, and the player remains on the team.
